Crna Reka monastery is situated at the three borders it is in
Serbia, but very close to Kosovo and Montenegro border lines, between
Kosovska Mitrovica, Rozaje and Novi Pazar, an hour walk from the village of
Ribarice. This unique monastery is in the canyon of the lost Crna Reka
(Black River) and is from the 13th century. A great ascetic lived there
in the 15th century St Jonanikije of Devic and his monks. Later, he
moved to Drenica region, where Devic monastery today is, burnt and
desecrated by the Albanian terrorists.
The relics of St Petar Korishki are in Crna Reka monastery.
In 1979 bishop Artemije moved to the monastery and gathered a lot of
young monks, building a spiritual centre of the Eparchy of Rashka and
Prizren.
Very close to the monastery there is a grave of the beheaded Crna Reka
monk Hariton, martyred by those who would never have mercy to any
Christian.
