Yuryev monastery, Class 1, obschezhitelny, on the banks of the River Volkhov, 3 versts from Novgorod. Founded in 1030 the Grand Prince Yaroslav Vladimirovich, narechennym in holy baptism George. In 1092 the monastery was expanded in 1119 - of the Fine Arts, at Prince St. Vsevolod (see February 11) in place of a wooden church was built a stone. Until the XVIII century the monastery was one of the richest northern monasteries, even called Lavrov and it was attributed to the other 15 monasteries.
